ONE OF A KIND

A BEAST OF A SLAB THAT’S TRULY A BEAUTY

This is a one-of-a-kind furniture design idea.

At 211″ long (17.5ft) x 61″ wide it’s easy to see where this slab gets it’s affectionate name, ‘The Beast’ from.

This solid, single slab of Black Walnut packs a punch in the size department but it also has an inner beauty that has yet to be revealed and showcased.

Here is ‘The Beast’ in its current state. We hope that through this one-of-a-kind platform we can show you it’s true potential.

After it’s first ‘facial’ it’s still looking a little raw, with darker areas indicating rougher surface areas. What we see is areas where the tree grew under immense pressure creating beautiful figuring, including ‘crotch figuring’. The image above also shows holes and bark pockets, what we see is natural areas of interest that remind us of the ‘treeness’ in this giant single slab of wood. These could be filled with resin or rocks, covered with polycarbonate or hand-made geodes.

At this point this mammoth piece of walnut could be anything…

A dining table or meeting room table…

A statement headboard like it’s sister slab (pictured below in a project in which we worked with Holly Wright of Holly Wright Design in Scottsdale).
