TALES AROUND THE TABLE 

In Canada, Thanksgiving is a gentle pause in the year—a time to gather close, share gratitude, and celebrate the harvest season. While the meal is always special, it is the dining table itself that becomes the true heart of the holiday.

The table is more than wood and craft; it is a place of connection. Around it, generations come together, stories are passed down, and laughter rises as freely as the steam from the feast. A grandparent’s tale of past Thanksgivings blends with a child’s excitement over new adventures. Siblings remind each other of long-forgotten moments that spark smiles, while quiet glances between family members remind us of the comfort of simply being together.

Amid the bustle of everyday life, Thanksgiving asks us to slow down. The dining table becomes a sanctuary, where phones are set aside, worries fade, and the rhythm of conversation takes center stage. It is here, over shared dishes and clinking glasses, that gratitude is voiced not only for the food on our plates, but for the people seated beside us.

Each table tells its own story. Some have been passed down through generations, their marks and scratches etched with memory. Others are new, built to hold the weight of fresh traditions and the promise of many gatherings to come. Yet no matter its shape or size, the table becomes a symbol of belonging, of being welcomed and heard.

Unlike in the U.S., Canadian Thanksgiving is a more casual, harvest-focused holiday celebrated on the second Monday of October (this Monday).

We are proud to be a part of the 15th annual Cowichan Artisans Tour.

Each year our group of 13 professional artisans open their studios to the public in the Spring and Fall. An opportunity to spend a day or two meeting with artisans brimming with passion and creativity in the unique spaces where we create and perfect our craft.

Our studio is full of life — giant live-edge slabs that stand like sculptures, sawdust dances in the air, and our team is busy turning raw wood into stunning tables, benches, and bar tops.

Come for the creativity, stay for the stories, and leave with a new appreciation for what custom furniture can be.
